Carnivale Craft

Sophia's Arelecchino.  This is a rework of the other post.  I looked online for a Carnivale craft or Mardi Gras craft, but there were only masks.  Everyone does masks and I wanted something a little bit different.  This is the same as a couple of days ago, only this time the Arlecchino is a little more recognizable.

Supplies:
Empty cereal box (or some sort of cardboard of the same thickness)
string (we used the type to truss a turkey or a roast)
2 beads (this is to keep the string from falling out, you can also use tape, make play dough beads or tie a really big knot)
A washer or coins
drinking straws
glue
tape
scissors

1) Cut out the Arlecchino template in a bubble shape (don't cut out the details just yet).
2) Glue the Arlecchino to the cardboard. If you are not using stick glue, make sure not to use too much glue or it will bubble.  If that does happen, just smoosh out the bubble the best you can.

3) Cut out the Arlecchino more precisely.
4) Color it in.
5) Flip the Arlecchino over.  Cut to pieces of straw so that they fit behind the arms.  Make sure they are the same length or your Arlecchino will climb crookedly.  Glue them  as you see here (about  a 90° angle to the bottom of his arm). Glue on the coin or washer (I tell the kids it's the bellybutton, altho in this picture the belly looks a bit high).  The coin serves as a weight to help the Arlecchino slide back down, you may have to add on another one depending on how heavy/light your coin is.
6) Tape the straws and coin into place.  This serves as a reinforcement for the glue.  Also the kids don't have to wait until the glue dries to begin playing with the toy.
7) Thread the string through the top of the 2 straws and then through a bead on each end.  Tie off.

8) Hang on a door knob and now you are ready to go...Pull down alternatively on each bead and the Arlecchino will climb up. Add some slack and he will slide back down.

And now a crafty little I Spy for Carnivale:
I spy  bits of confetti and a streamer that's blue,
a piece of string and a white bead or 2.
a roll of tape,
and a Arlecchino cut out in a bubble shape,
a red straw that only half shows,
7 pens all colors of rainbows.
a pair of scissors and 3 coins in a pile,
I spy a colorful Arlecchino with a happy little smile.
